Understand the working context
Start with the information that matters for customer work: a recognisable account, the right contact, an owner and an understandable next step. Decide which fields need consistent values and which can remain flexible. Collecting more fields does not automatically improve quality. A few agreed standards, checked at sensible points in the process, can make records easier for colleagues to interpret. Make correction part of everyday work rather than an occasional cleanup exercise.
Put it into practice
- Agree naming conventions for accounts and opportunities.
- Check important contact details when a conversation takes place.
- Review missing ownership and stale dates.
- Use a representative import sample to test field mapping.
A practical example
Two colleagues describe the same customer using different abbreviations. A shared naming convention helps them find the account and recognise an existing record. Before a larger import, the administrator also reviews the source file for repeated rows and inconsistent identifiers. The team then agrees who will maintain the account details.
In the current workspace
Atlas validates supported record fields and import data. It does not currently provide a general automatic duplicate-merge or data-cleansing service.
