Understand the working context

Use a consistent SKU and recognisable name, then add descriptions and the details that distinguish similar products. Make, model, manufacturer, specifications and images can all help. A service may need a different description from a physical product, while still belonging in the same commercial workspace. Keep the catalogue focused on the information the team can maintain reliably and explain to customers. Selling prices should remain clear and separately managed.

Put it into practice

  • Choose a consistent SKU convention.
  • Record the distinguishing specification and description.
  • Add an appropriate product image where useful.
  • Organise related items into a family and sub-family.

A practical example

Two speakers look similar but have different connection types. Clear model details and specifications help a salesperson select the right one. The product can then be added to the relevant price list without confusing its description, private cost information and agreed selling price.

HOW THIS RELATES TO ATLAS

In the current workspace

Atlas stores rich product/service metadata, authenticated images, family relationships and administrator-only costs. Price-list entries manage selling prices independently.
