Understand the working context

Ownership and visibility are separate decisions. A colleague may own an account while another person has permission to assist. Avoid changing ownership simply to give someone temporary access when a narrower account assignment would do. Agree how handovers work and how the team reviews records whose owner is leaving or changing role. The aim is continuity in the relationship, not just a populated owner field.

Put it into practice

  • Assign an owner who can act on the record.
  • Keep supporting colleagues’ access separate where appropriate.
  • Review open tasks and opportunities during a handover.
  • Confirm that notes explain the current customer context.

A practical example

A salesperson moves to a different territory. Their manager identifies the accounts that need a new owner and reviews open opportunities and tasks with the incoming colleague. Temporary read access can help the handover, but the team still needs an explicit decision about responsibility for the next customer conversation.

HOW THIS RELATES TO ATLAS

In the current workspace

Atlas uses ownership alongside workspace roles and customer-access grants. Ownership does not replace object permissions or the read-only limits of a viewer role.
